Short Black

A Short Black is basically what australians call a shot of espresso, It is typically a 30ml espresso served in a small glass with a thick luxuriant crema floating on top. Nearly all other varities of coffee are started by this little wonder. For a good flat white coffee, latte or cappuccino it is absolutely essential.

The procedure to make a good Espresso (short black) is as follows. Hot water needs to be forced under pressure through ground coffee. This will lead to a more concentrated coffee than in most other methods and allows the transfer of more oils and flavour. The crema is a result of this concentration.
